Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin centered on a square central perforation surrounded by a raised square rim. Four traditional Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in cruciform arrangement reading top, right, bottom, left: 大 (Da), 中 (Zhong), 通 (Tong), 寶 (Bao), together forming the legend 大中通寶 (Dazhong Tongbao). The characters are bold and well-formed, set within the broad flat field between the central square rim and the outer circular rim. The coin displays an extensive green and blue patina consistent with age.
