| Obverse description | Central square perforation (cash hole) surrounded by a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole, reading top-bottom then right-left: 大 (dà) above, 中 (zhōng) below, 通 (tōng) to the right, and 寶 (bǎo) to the left, forming the legend 大中通寶 (Dazhong Tongbao). The characters are bold and well-defined against a plain, flat field. The coin exhibits the typical cast finish of early Ming-period copper cash coinage. |
