Obverse description Central square hole surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left, reading 道光通寶 (Dao Guang Tong Bao). The characters are separated by plain raised ridges forming quadrants within a raised inner rim. The outer field is flat, bordered by a raised circular rim. The coin exhibits the characteristic cast surface texture of Qing dynasty cash coinage.
