Obverse description Cast brass cash coin of standard round form with a central square perforation. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged symmetrically in the cardinal positions around the square hole, reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left as the reign title legend 道光通寶 (Dao Guang Tong Bao), denoting the Daoguang Emperor's universal currency. The field is plain and unadorned, with a raised rim encircling the periphery. The coin shows typical Qing Dynasty casting characteristics with well-formed characters, now with overall green and brown patination consistent with extended circulation.
