| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin of standard round form with a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square border. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in cruciform arrangement around the central hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 道 (Dào), 光 (Guāng), 通 (Tōng), 寶 (Bǎo), together rendering the reign title and denomination legend 'Daoguang Tongbao' (Daoguang [Emperor's] Universal Currency). The fields are plain and unadorned, bounded by a raised outer rim. The coin exhibits heavy encrustation and patination consistent with age. |
