Obverse description Cast round coin with a central square hole, surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in the traditional cross pattern and read top-bottom, right-left. The reign title inscription 道光通寶 (Daoguang Tongbao) is disposed in kaishu (regular script) with 道 at top, 光 at bottom, 通 at right, and 寶 at left relative to the central perforation. The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief within a plain, unadorned field, bounded by a plain outer rim. The overall style is consistent with standard Qing dynasty cash coinage produced at the Board of Revenue mint.
