Obverse description Central square hole flanked on four sides by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional reading order: top to bottom, right to left. The characters 道光通寶 (Daoguang Tongbao) radiate outward from the central perforation within a plain raised rim. The calligraphy is bold and well-formed, typical of Qing dynasty cast coinage, with the characters occupying the full quadrants of the coin's field.
