Obverse description Round brass cash coin with a central square hole. Four Chinese characters are arranged around the hole in the four cardinal positions, reading clockwise from top: 道 (Dào), 通 (Tōng), 光 (Guāng), 寶 (Bǎo), forming the reign title and currency denomination 道光通寶 (Daoguang Tongbao) of the Daoguang Emperor (r. 1820–1850) of the Qing dynasty. The field is plain with a raised rim.
