Obverse description Cast round coin with a central square hole, typical of the Chinese cash tradition. Four traditional Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in the four quadrants around the central square aperture, reading top to bottom and right to left. The characters 大港公司 (Dagang Gongsi, meaning 'Dagang Company') occupy the field, with one character in each quadrant. The flat, unadorned field displays the characteristic coarse surface texture of a lead-alloy cast piece, with no decorative border or rim inscription.
