Additional information

Cảnh Hưng was the longest reign title in Vietnamese history, running from 1740 to 1786 under Lê Hiển Tông — a period during which the Lê emperors functioned largely as figureheads while the Trịnh lords exercised real authority in the north. By 1776, the dynasty was under simultaneous pressure from the Trịnh in the capital and the rising Tây Sơn rebellion in the south. Cash coinage continued to flow from the mints as a matter of administrative habit as much as economic necessity, with dozens of reverse varieties documented across the Cảnh Hưng series — Barker alone catalogues over a hundred distinct types.
