Obverse description Round bronze cash coin featuring a central square perforation flanked by four Chinese clerical-script characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the hole. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left, the four characters 開元通寶 (Kai Yuan Tong Bao) are boldly cast in raised relief against a flat field. The characters are well-formed in the clerical (lishu) tradition, with broad, confident strokes characteristic of early Tang imperial coinage. A raised inner rim surrounds the square hole, and a raised outer rim borders the coin's circumference. The surfaces display an even, dark patina consistent with age and circulation.
