Reverse description A frontal devotional image of the Virgin Mary, veiled and draped, shown half-length and cradling the Christ Child in her arms. The figures are rendered in a late medieval Italo-Byzantine stylistic tradition, with soft linear drapery folds and intimate maternal composition. The Virgin occupies the full field of the coin, with the Child turned slightly toward the viewer. A circular Latin legend in majuscule lettering surrounds the figures along the coin's periphery, invoking the Virgin as protector and glory of the city.
