| Additional information |
Adrian de Wignacourt served as Grand Master of the Order from 1690 until his death in 1697, a period when the Order's financial position was increasingly strained by the cost of maintaining Mediterranean galley fleets against Ottoman and Barbary corsair activity. The carlino was the Order's small silver workhorse denomination, circulating primarily within Malta itself rather than serving any broader trade function.
KM#120 is known in relatively few surviving examples, a consequence of the short seven-year reign and modest striking volume rather than any particular minting difficulty.
