Trade tokens issued by small-town Wisconsin bars are a well-documented phenomenon, but paper scrip in this format — essentially a drink chit printed on card stock — occupies an awkward middle ground between token and coupon. These were almost certainly produced locally, possibly on a desktop printer or through a regional print shop, and handed out as promotional currency: buy a round, get one back, return it at the bar. The redemption cycle was short and entirely internal, which is why survivors are uncommon despite their recent vintage.
