Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold fleur-de-lis motif in high relief, the symbol of the French Crown, presented frontally with three stylized petals and a tying band at the base. The design is rendered in a simple, robust manner consistent with cast coinage of the period. The surrounding field is plain and irregular in outline, characteristic of the crude striking technique employed at the Pondicherry Mint. No legend or inscription appears on this side.
