Reverse description Central rectangular cartouche enclosing three vertically arranged kanji characters reading 一分銀 (Ichibu Gin, meaning 'one bu silver'), denoting the denomination and metal. The cartouche is surrounded by a border of thirty stylised sakura (cherry blossom) roundels, one of which is inverted in accordance with the established mintmark convention. The hammered surface displays the irregular relief and texture characteristic of hand-struck Meiji-era silver currency.
