The Brixton Pound was a local complementary currency designed to keep spending circulating within Brixton's local economy rather than leaking out to national chains. This second paper issue followed the 2009 launch and ran alongside an electronic version — the e-Brixton Pound — which operated via SMS payment, an unusual infrastructure for a community currency of this scale.

Printed locally in Brixton itself, which was a deliberate political statement about self-sufficiency. The notes were accepted by participating independent traders only, never legal tender in any formal sense.
