Reverse description Central device consisting of a stylized castle or tower motif set within a beaded inner circle, a common heraldic emblem employed on Papal States provincial issues of the Marche region. The design field shows globular ornaments flanking the central device, characteristic of the die-engraving conventions of late medieval Italian mints. The surrounding legend in Latin reads * * MARChIO * A, referencing the March of Ancona under whose authority the Macerata mint operated. The overall striking is typical of hammered silver of this period, with uneven surface and slight weakness at the margins.
