Obverse description Central field displays a large Gothic letter 'A' surrounded by a radiate star motif, rendered in the bold uncial style characteristic of central Italian medieval coinage. An inner beaded circle separates the central device from the surrounding legend. The circumferential legend in uncial Latin characters reads the name of the issuing city. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the rim, consistent with hand-hammered production. The overall design reflects the Bolognino type widely adopted by the Papal States and their subject communes in the fifteenth century.
