Reverse description The reverse displays the letters C, V, L, and O arranged in the form of a cross around a central pellet, all contained within a reeded inner circle, forming an acronym for the city of Ascoli (Ascolum). The heraldic arms of Ascoli appear above the inner circle in the outer field. The surrounding legend, in Gothic uncial script, invokes Saint Emygdius, patron saint of Ascoli. The composition reflects the civic and devotional iconographic conventions common to communal Italian coinage of the fifteenth century.
