Obverse description The Bolivian national coat of arms occupies the central field, rendered in fine detail. Eleven five-pointed stars are arranged in a row below the arms, symbolizing the departments of the republic. The circular legend REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA flanks the arms on both sides as a curved inscription in Latin characters.

Reverse description A spread-winged eagle stands upon a rocky outcrop at center, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style. The engraver's initials C.T. appear on either side of the central device. The curved legend MONEDA EMITIDA EN LA PAZ arcs across the top of the field, while the denomination UN BOLIVIANO and the date 1868 are inscribed below the eagle. KM#Pn25 includes the letter E in the legend, while KM#Pn26 omits it.
