| Obverse description | The Bolivian national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a mountain landscape with the Cerro Rico and Cerro Menor rising above an alluvial plain, with the Sacred Heart Chapel to the left, a palm tree to the right, and a sheaf of wheat at the base, all surmounted by the rising sun. An alpaca (llama) stands at the lower center of the shield. The shield is flanked by the country name in a curved legend reading REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA, with a row of either nine or eleven five-pointed stars arranged along the lower arc, representing the departments of the republic. The composition is rendered in a formal heraldic style typical of mid-nineteenth-century South American coinage. |
