Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of the Archbishopric of Cologne (the cross of Cologne) impaled with the arms of Hessen (striped field), surmounted by an archiepiscopal crown. The composite heraldic achievement is rendered in the Gothic style typical of late 15th-century Rhenish coinage. An inner beaded circle frames the shield, with a Gothic Latin legend surrounding in the outer field.
