Obverse description Central field features the Gothic crowned 'Y' monogram of Isabella I of Castile, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown rendered in relief. Flanking the monogram are small decorative elements characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the Catholic Monarchs period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading partially + REX : ET : REGINA : CAST : LEGI, referencing the joint royal titles of Ferdinand and Isabella. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hand-struck medieval Castilian blancas. The overall fabric is dark billon with worn but legible devices.
