Obverse description Hammered irregular flan bearing the royal Persian inscription in bold Nasta'liq script arranged across the field in two registers, separated by a horizontal line. The legend reads az bahr-e khayr in sekke-ra kalb-e 'ali 'abbas zad ('For the sake of goodness, 'Abbas, the dog of 'Ali, struck this coin'), reflecting the characteristic Safavid devotional formula invoking allegiance to Imam 'Ali. The mint name Mazandaran appears as part of the obverse inscription. The script is deeply struck in high relief against a plain, unadorned field.
