| Obverse description | Hammered irregular flan bearing the royal Persian inscription in bold Nasta'liq script arranged across the field in two registers, separated by a horizontal line. The legend reads az bahr-e khayr in sekke-ra kalb-e 'ali 'abbas zad ('For the sake of goodness, 'Abbas, the dog of 'Ali, struck this coin'), reflecting the characteristic Safavid devotional formula invoking allegiance to Imam 'Ali. The mint name Mazandaran appears as part of the obverse inscription. The script is deeply struck in high relief against a plain, unadorned field. |

| Reverse description | Hammered irregular flan displaying the Shi'a profession of faith (Kalima) in bold Nasta'liq script arranged across the field in two or three registers. The legend reads: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, 'Ali is the Friend of God' (la ilaha illa'llah muhammad rasul allah 'ali wali allah), the standard Safavid Twelver Shi'a creed formula. The inscription fills the field without a border, typical of Safavid bisti coinage of this period. |
