Obverse description Hammered oval flan bearing a bold Persian nasta'liq legend arranged in two or three registers across the field. The inscription reads 'Abbas zarb Baghdad 1033', identifying the ruler Shah Abbas I, the Baghdad mint, and the regnal year 1033 AH. The lettering is deeply struck in characteristic Safavid calligraphic style, with individual characters exhibiting the flowing, overlapping strokes typical of early seventeenth-century Iranian hammered coinage. The irregular flan edges show the characteristic ragged outline of hand-cut silver planchets of the period.
