(Translation: Menelik II King of Kings of Ethiopia 1889)
Reverse description The Lion of Judah passant, facing left, wearing an imperial crown and carrying a processional cross-topped staff with an unfurled banner in its right forepaw, set upon a raised platform or plinth. The circular Ge'ez legend 'Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah' surrounds the design. In the lower exergue, the engraver's name LAGRANGE and the Paris mint mark 'A' appear in Latin characters, flanked by the Ge'ez denomination inscription 'አንድ ፡ ብር' (One Birr). A beaded border frames the entire composition.
