Vooruit ("Forward") was the flagship cooperative of the Belgian socialist movement, and its Ghent operation — bakery, pharmacy, textile shop, pharmacy — issued internal bread tokens and vouchers for decades as a practical extension of the cooperative economy. This small paper chit, redeemable for one large loaf, functioned as a purchasing voucher within that closed system rather than as currency in any legal sense. The signature of George Nachez presumably identifies a board member or administrator responsible for that issue run.

By 1956 the cooperative was well past its organizational peak. These late-period vouchers rarely survived — bread tokens got used and discarded.
