| Obverse description | Central field bears the crowned Portuguese royal shield, displaying the five escutcheons arranged in a quincunx pattern with bezants, set within a plain shield. A royal crown surmounts the shield. The mint mark letters D and O flank the shield in the left and right fields respectively, denoting the Damão to Diu attribution. The overall style is consistent with hammered coinage of the Portuguese Estado da India. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays the date divided into four quarters by a plain cross, with the numerals 1, 6, 7, and 8 (forming the year 1678) placed in the respective quadrants. The cross extends to the inner border, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded or rope-pattern circular border. The numerals are rendered in a somewhat crude, hand-cut style typical of hammered Portuguese colonial copper coinage. |
