| Reverse description | Full-length figure of Saint Stephen, patron saint of Passau Cathedral, standing facing, nimbed and wearing ecclesiastical vestments, holding a palm frond in one hand and a book or stone in the other. Beneath his feet appears the quartered arms of Passau. The saint is depicted in a hieratic frontal style typical of early sixteenth-century German episcopal coinage, within a beaded inner circle. The Latin legend surrounding the figure references the diocese, reading PRESIDIO (or similar) around the periphery. |
