Additional information

Otto Henry and Philip ruled Palatinate-Neuburg jointly as minors under regency from 1505, inheriting a duchy carved out of the fragmented Wittelsbach territorial divisions following the 1505 Landshut War of Succession. The joint coinage reflects their formal co-rulership, an arrangement that persisted until Philip's death in 1548 and Otto Henry's eventual rise to electoral dignity as Elector Palatine in 1556.

The Batzen denomination itself originated in Bern around 1492 and spread rapidly through the German-speaking lands as a practical mid-value silver unit during a period of acute small-change shortages across the Holy Roman Empire.
