Obverse description The Palatinate lion rampant to the left occupies the central field, rendered in a bold late-medieval style with detailed mane and raised forepaw. The date 1535 is divided between the lion's forepaws in the lower field. A circular legend surrounds the central device, bearing the titles of Elector Frederick II of the Palatinate in Latin. The inscription runs along the inner border, separated from the field by a beaded or linear circle.
