| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Frederick II (Frederick the Great) facing right, his hair arranged in the fashionable mid-18th-century style with a prominent laurel wreath. The king is attired in armour with a draped mantle visible at the truncation. The encircling legend reads FRIDERICUS BORUSSORUM REX, separated at the base by the bust truncation, with the lettering set against a smooth field and bordered by a finely toothed rim. |

The denomination legend EIN BANCO THALER arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 17 A 65 — with the Berlin mint mark 'A' interposed between the two halves of the year — is inscribed in the exergue below the central device. The composition is rendered in a vigorous baroque style, framed by a dentillated border. |
