Additional information

San Felipe Neri's oratory in the Casco Viejo district of Panama City is one of the few colonial-era religious structures in the Americas to survive largely intact after the destruction of the original Panama City by the privateer Henry Morgan in 1671. The current settlement — officially Panamá la Nueva — was founded two years later on a more defensible peninsula, and the oratory dates to the early 18th century construction push that followed.

This coin is part of Panama's ongoing bimetallic circulation series commemorating national architectural heritage sites, issued through the Banco Nacional beginning in the 2010s.
