Additional information

Pius VIII reigned for less than two years — from March 1829 until his death in November 1830 — making his coinage among the scarcest of any nineteenth-century pope by sheer reign length. The 1 Baiocco was the workhorse of Papal copper, used for petty transactions throughout the Patrimony of Saint Peter at a moment when the papacy was still scrambling to stabilize its finances following the disruptions of Napoleonic occupation and the forced dissolution of the Papal States between 1809 and 1814.

The short window of production means surviving examples in any grade above Fine are harder to source than the type's modest face value would suggest.
