Obverse description Central field dominated by the straight-sided heraldic shield of Pope Benedict XIV (Prospero Lambertini), displaying six vertical pale stripes, flanked by elaborate baroque scrollwork. The shield is surmounted by the papal tiara and the crossed keys of Saint Peter, symbols of pontifical authority. A beaded inner border frames the design, with a milled outer border. The circumferential Latin legend reads BENED·XIV PON·M·A·XVI, indicating Benedict XIV, Pontifex Maximus, in the sixteenth year of his pontificate.
