Additional information

Thailand's shift to copper-nickel coinage in the early 1960s coincided with a period of significant U.S. military and economic influence in the country, as Bangkok positioned itself as a Cold War ally and modernized its monetary infrastructure accordingly. The 1962 one baht was among the first issues of this redesigned series under Rama IX, whose reign — the longest of any Thai monarch — would span this denomination across dozens of subsequent types.
