| Reverse description | Standing male figure, interpreted as Mars Ultor, facing right and depicted in a martial stance with a spear raised in the right hand and a shield held in the left. The figure is rendered in a schematic, barbarian imitative style with elongated proportions and simplified musculature, typical of Germanic copies of Roman aurei. A blundered pseudo-Latin legend surrounds the figure in the field within a beaded border. The die work reflects a crude but deliberate attempt to replicate the iconography of the Roman imperial reverse type honoring Mars the Avenger. |
