Obverse description Central device comprises the Livonian Order shield, displaying a plain cross, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in bold relief in the Gothic style typical of medieval Baltic coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading MAGISTRI : LIVONIE, referencing the Master of Livonia. The field outside the beaded circle is plain, and the coin exhibits the characteristic irregularity of hammered manufacture.
