Reverse description A large ornate six-pointed cross with flared arms occupies the central field, with stylized lily or floral motifs decorating each of the six angles between the arms. The Roman numeral I denoting the denomination is displayed within a lobed cartouche at the very center of the cross. The fineness mark 1000 appears at the base of the cross just above the lower legend. The peripheral legend PRO PROSPERITATE MUNDI arcs around the upper left, while the word ARGENTEUS is inscribed along the lower margin, all separated by small rosette stops.

Additional information

Issued the year of Pius XII's death, this West German private strike commemorates a pope whose wartime conduct — specifically his silence on the Holocaust — had already begun generating controversy that would intensify for decades. The "Aureus Magnus" series was a commercial medallion program, not state coinage, which explains the X# reference rather than a KM number. The Vatican issued nothing of this type itself.
