Bundi was one of the smaller Rajputana princely states, and its wartime cash coupons occupy an odd corner of Indian fiscal history. During the Second World War, acute coin shortages across British India prompted numerous princely states to issue low-denomination paper substitutes for fractional currency — the 1 Anna coupon being among the smallest practical units of exchange.
Pick S222 is sparsely documented, and surviving examples are genuinely uncommon. Bundi's issues from this period were purely local in circulation, redeemable only within state territory, which sharply limited the volume produced and the number that survived demonetization after 1947.
