Reverse description A large square-rigged ship of medieval design occupies the central field, shown in three-quarter perspective with multiple strakes of clinker-built planking rendered as horizontal wavy lines. Amidships, the Royal Arms of England — quarterly France ancient and England — are displayed on a shield surmounted by a large heraldic cross, with a rose to the right of the shield and a lion passant to the left. The mast and rigging are clearly delineated, and the ship's hull is flanked by the letters R and a saltire. The reverse legend in Latin runs along the coin's periphery within a beaded border.
