| Obverse description | Central field displays a spread eagle, the civic heraldic device of Dortmund, rendered in a bold late-medieval style within a beaded inner circle. The eagle faces forward with wings displayed, its plumage rendered with stylized feather detailing characteristic of Westphalian hammered coinage of the period. A circular legend in uncial Latin letters runs along the outer border, reading MONETA NOVA TREMONIENSIS, identifying this as a new coin of Tremonia (the Latin name for Dortmund). The coin exhibits the irregular flan and shallow relief typical of mid-fifteenth-century municipal hammered issues. |
