Additional information

Saruhan was one of the Anatolian beyliks that emerged from the fragmentation of Seljuk authority in the early fourteenth century, controlling the Gediz River valley around Manisa. Hızır Şah ruled as the third and last independent bey before Saruhan was absorbed into the Ottoman state — first temporarily under Murad I, then permanently under Bayezid I following the Battle of Nicopolis in 1396.

Coins of the minor Anatolian beyliks survive in small numbers, largely because Ottoman consolidation disrupted local minting almost immediately upon annexation.
