| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic kufic or naskh legend arranged in horizontal registers, naming the ruler Muhammad b. Mas'ud and associated titulature. The inscription fills the entire flan without an inner border frame, consistent with Qarakhanid copper coinage of Samarqand. The legends are boldly struck but show characteristic irregularity of hammered Islamic fulus coinage. A circular marginal legend runs along the rim, partially visible due to the irregular flan. The surfaces display a dark olive-green patina typical of excavated Central Asian copper issues. |
