| Obverse description | The obverse bears the Shi'a profession of faith (kalima) inscribed in flowing nastaliq script across the entire field, reading: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God,' followed by the names of the Twelve Imams arranged in multiple registers. The legends fill the flan from rim to rim in characteristic Safavid style, with the script rendered in bold, deeply struck strokes. A plain linear border encircles the inscriptions at the periphery. The coin is irregular in shape, typical of hammered Safavid silver coinage of the late seventeenth century. |
