| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the Shi'ia Kalima in bold nasta'liq script, reading 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' The names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'ism — Ali, Hasan, Husayn, Ali, Muhammad, Ja'far, Musa, Ali, Muhammad, Ali, Hasan, and Muhammad — are inscribed in a continuous circular border surrounding the central legend. The entire design is executed in hammered relief on an irregularly shaped flan, characteristic of Safavid silver coinage. |
