| Obverse description | The field is entirely occupied by the Shia Kalima rendered in bold, deeply struck nasta'liq calligraphy. The central legend reads 'La ilaha ill-Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah, Ali wali Allah' (There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God), arranged in three horizontal registers. Surrounding this central profession of faith, the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shia Islam are inscribed in the marginal legend, encircling the field and filling the coin's periphery. The overall design is entirely epigraphic, characteristic of Safavid silver coinage of the late period, with no figural or geometric ornamental elements. The irregular flan and variable strike are consistent with hammered production technique. |
