| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the Shi'a kalima in three lines of bold Persian nashtaliq script, reading: 'There is no god but God / Muhammad is the Messenger of God / Ali is the Friend of God.' The inscription fills the flan with characteristic Safavid calligraphic elegance, the letters raised in high relief against a flat field. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of hammered coinage of the period, with slight weakness at the periphery. |
