| Reverse description | The reverse is entirely occupied by the Shi'a kalima and the names of the Twelve Imams rendered in bold Nasta'liq script, arranged across three horizontal registers divided by a raised line and framed by a rope-like inner border. The uppermost register opens with the shahada 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah', while the central and lower registers continue with the names of the twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'a Islam from Ali to the twelfth Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi. The deeply engraved lettering is characteristic of Safavid hammered silver coinage, affirming the dynasty's Twelver Shi'a religious identity. |
